I have played this in the orchestra many times, clarinet, and I must say this is very difficult to play... mainly because I am holding back the tears! I love this one!

Strauss told Hofmannsthal to write more libretto for this duet. He had written it and was compelled to include it. Every time I hear it I'm transported to heaven and my eyes are filled with tears to behold such beauty.
