The average person has never tried Linux on anything other than a phone or netbook, even then it was probably unwittingly. The average person sees the difference in those areas in normal use, copying files, playing games, and when buying a computer fast enough to meet their OS's and their own need for resources. I think that when i began using Linux, it was no more difficult to operate than my windows computers, or any mac i had tried. I believe people have a bad preconception of Linux.

this is not totally true. Mac is a hybrid kernel based on both BSD and Linux. Most typically, the GUI is not mac-like when installed. the resemblance is the result of haughty customization. on a more technical note, Linux out performs Windows in many areas such as file read/transfer/write; boot time; graphic rendering; resource conservation. The fact that you can utilize many opensource means of customization of the GUI is just a plus. Not to mention it runs on almost any platform.

everything apart from the bash shell, maybe. which is one of the main reasons I haven't made the move across.
that, and I cbfed paying hundreds for an OS which should be free. also, you can configure linux the way you like it, you can even redevelop it. to do that effectively for Microsoft you need to be an employee (and you wont have freedom of choice on what you are developing).
for your games, w/o knowing what they are I can't say. check wineHQ, with a little tweaking they could be good.

two words: speed and shell. linux is tons faster. linux has an awesome shell which allows you to do everything (you don't even need a GUI).
...and most Windows games play on Linux through wine. and it's fast! no background processes lagging your games

how do you get that quick launch toolbar on the bottom?
And how you customised it to look and work that way.

pretty much. minus how the mac OS tries to lock you into buying extra crap that shouldn't need to be bought. also I don't like windows fully/or mac fully so I get a compromise (minus the costs of course!)

ubuntu has come a long way from when i used it....

yeah, I use ubuntu on my thinkpad, its dope, I would not mind getting a mac if i had to cash, and I would still use the *nix.
The title bars and the Folder icons are almost the same like in vista
