The Nittany LERA's October Meeting presents Doug Allen, PSU 2011 Distinguished Labor Leader in Residence, speaking on Collective Bargaining in Professional Sports and Hollywood.

Doug Allen, a '73 alum of the Labor Studies Department, was an outstanding linebacker with the Nittany Lions from 1969-1973. After retiring from the Buffalo Bills, Doug accepted a position as regional director for the AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education in New York and New Jersey.

From 1982 - 2007, he served as Assistant Executive Director of the NFL Players Association where he played a key role in negotiations with the NFL owners.

From 2007-2009, as Executive Director of the Screen Actors Guild, the union representing actors in the motion picture, television, and advertising industries, Doug oversaw day-to-day operations and all executive, operational, functional, and financial matters and served as chief negotiator. Since leaving SAG in 2009, he has worked as a consultant to unions.
