@Teasle586 As much as I admired the late Mr. Wilson, he himself was the biggest bandwagon jumper. The Stranglers were often prevented playing live on TV in case they said something naughty, so trashed the place instead. Incidentally Joe Strummer and the likes used to go and watch the Stranglers before they were in serious bands. The Stranglers non conformity to the new ideals and rules of what Punk should be seen them often ostracised by the fascist music press and other contemporaries.

Maybe they conveniently used the Punk label to sell their music but so did the others.
In my opinion, the fact that The Stranglers was and is an outsider band with an aggressive attitude makes them truly punk. Most of their contemporaries were wank punk outfits.
