Heres the idea.. white color, like lots of glacier ice and ice at the poles, reflects energy back into space, rather than be absorbed by the land and oceans at heat energy. That regulates the temperature of the earth. . Same thing on a small scale in the city. White roofs reflect energy off the roof, instead of being absorbed as heat. Less ac energy needed, city's overall temperature is cooler. Inexpensive and proven. The idea is actually used in Peru to stop melting of mountain glaciers.

The sunlight that bounces off white roofs doesn’t all fly out into space. A lot of it is absorbed by particles of soot and other dark-colored pollutants that float around in the atmosphere. The particles heat up and the net result is a warmer atmosphere. Your house might be cooler, but it would be at the expense of a warmer atmosphere

This is not a stupid idea. The link is to a paper on energy conservation and increased reflection of sun light in California. All major cities are several degrees hotter than their surroundings. California alone is calculated to have 4 000 000 000 m2 of roof area, or about 1% of total area of the state. Of course this is not a solution to climate change, there is never gonna be one... there has to be many.

i thought something similar! the ice caps are melting...i thought that massive plastic white sheets could maybe replace alot of the ice reflecting the suns heat and cooling the earth. Obviously the logistics would have to be worked out as it could be dangerous to wildlife but....my thought
