I love nature, wilderness, and wildlife and understand that death is part of the natural cycle of things. What I don't understand is why humans have had to bring down so much destruction on the natural world with our airports, shopping malls, highways, and huge population?
Anyway, this deer caught my attention because there was a huge flock of birds feasting on it as I drove by. Unfortunately the birds wouldn't hang around no matter how quiet I was so I decided to video record the carcass without 'em. It was obvious this poor creature had died only a few hours ago (there was only the smell of fresh blood - not rotting flesh or putrid meat) from being hit by a car.
The location of this accident was about halfway between the towns of Whitewater and Gateway on Colorado Highway 141 in the western part of the state. My guess is that this portion of the highway is at an elevation of about 1,600 metres (aprx 5,300 feet) so the road, itself, stays relatively clear but is still a huge hazard for the wildlife.
Here's my personal web page about a deer that got stuck in the gate at my house near Denver:

Sad, but at least the carcass did not go to waste.

Good point - there were many birds feeding on the carcass, as well, but they left when I stopped to make the recording.

You're right - local critters took full advantage of that carcass!
