Vernon Howard

There is a way out of suffering with an advocated self-honesty, persistence, the study and application of spiritual principles, and a sincere desire for inner change. A new and higher inner life is found through releasing the negative conditioned ego, which is the "false self". This new life can only be found through awareness, and the human ego is a barrier to this awareness. Inner liberation is a ridding process. The false self is fictitious, a collection of self-images or pictures about who we think we are.

  • @PeterRoeder31 maybe you are right. But the Course in Miracles does say that there are only 2 states - Love (openness) and Fear (separation) and that all of the negative emotions are manifestations of fear.

  • On the other hand, it would also be easy to come up with examples where there is both fear and hatred, right? If for example the person (enemy) is stronger than you and a threat against you, then there is both fear and hatred.

  • Or I might hate someone who was much weaker than me and not a threat, and then, again, there would be no fear. There´s lots of examples like that in nature also, I guess. I might hate a woman for leaving me, but I would not fear her.

  • For example, if I got cheated of 10 dollars from some website on the Internet I might hate them for it but I would not fear them.

  • @claudelebel55 Of course, hatred can exist without fear. It would be easy to imagine a situation where you hate someone without fearing them, and it would also be easy to come up with real-life examples of such a situation.

  • @PeterRoeder31 I suggest you keep looking. Sit next to someone you hate. Do you feel safe or defensive ? What other things do you feel going on inside of you ? explore it wordlessly. We are too quick to qualify. Can hatred exist without fear ? That was the question.

  • @claudelebel55 It´s nonsensical. It´s just like saing "hate" and "fear" is the same. But it is two different concepts. Of course, there are things about them that are the same but also things that are different.

  • @PeterRoeder31 yes it is true. Sit near someone you hate, forget your thoughts about them and go into the feeling and you will find fear.
