With its voluntary basis of about 80,000 voluntary experts THW as an authority in the department of the Federal Ministry of the Interior of Germany. Across the world, the structure of THW is unique: As a Federal agency, THW belongs to the department of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. However, only one percent of the staff works full-time for the authority. 99 percent of the THW-members work on a voluntary basis for THW.

This video was taken during my visit to Berlin to join the ISO/TC223 Technical Committee as a representative from Thailand in March 2008. Mike (DJ9OZ) was kind enough to bring me to visit the THW in Berlin and met with his son, Alex (DD1AX) who work as the Head of Communications and Disaster Management Group in Berlin.
