I posted this because I completely relate to what he is saying about how music feels when you're playing it, vs. listening to the live recording of it later. My girlfriend encouraged me to get a small digital recorder. Now, I listen-back to almost all my live gigs...and I find that Jerry is 100% right about this...It felt as if he was talking directly to me when I heard this interview fragment (from the Grateful Dead Movie, 2nd disk)

yea well I just asked my friend - I guess we have to wait for them to re-release the movie with the new interview ?? and then buy it... ? I gotta have it. it is from this same interview though

He's right, but not just for the Dead. Look at an old picture. When it was taken, it might have been a terrible day, but then you look back and think 'those were the days'. Or maybe the other way around. But perception in the moment, and then looking back, can be two entirely different things.

This is from a documentary? If so, which one and is it available somewhere? I've always loved to hear Jerry's perceptions, especially about music. Thanks.

It's from the Grateful Dead Movie.The one that depicts the bands "last shows" at Winterland, i n1974 (LOL !)
