Ten years ago, the Safe Surrender program was established in Los Angeles County. The program allows a parent or legal guardian to confidentially handover an infant, three days old or younger, to any hospital emergency room or other designated Safe Surrender site.
Thanks to the Safe Surrender program, 87 newborns have been given a chance for a healthy and happy life.
Supervisor Don Knabe reflects on the impact of the program, and families who have adopted safe surrender babies share their stories.
This is just wonderful. A lovely and positive outcome for all. I hope some of the birth mums get to see their children happy and healthy.
