For a TABLE from American's for Fair Taxation's research which gives away what the Fair Tax really is (a plan to make the middleclasses work more to have the same standard of living as now, while the wealthy get much wealthier under it), see TABLE 5 page 26 at tinyurl 593htl. Notice which income groups labor supply increases the most ($0-$149k) and which grps real wages increase the most (more than $150k, up 48%). Notice how the $50k group works10.3% more for a wage increase of 1.5%. Ouch.
@john639 Unfortunately It would on average raise the effective federal taxes of those who make from $15,000 to $150,00 a year, shifting much of the tax burden onto them and off of those who make more than $150,00 a year.
Also, there is no such thing as "embedded" taxes-- there are wages embedded in the price of things, but income taxes are paid in at different rates by different workers, so it is not a removable cost, only wages are.
999 is not the fair tax @niftytax nd the flat tax is better then what we have now Only because its a lower rate. But it still has all the embeded hidden taxes in it.
THe Fair tax is fantastic! especialy when you include the prebate in the discusion. a monthly prebate of 209$ for every person regardless of income. that covers the 23% tax for everyone on essential goods up to the poverty level.
eliminates the IRS, there is no more filling your taxes on April 14. good to get our whole check
The 999 or "Fair Tax" are not the answer to our economic problems. A "Flat Tax" of 15%-20% on AGI where everyone pays will simplify tax filing.
My 787 Flat tax plan at NoTaxUntilDeath [dot] com will fix and save Social Security retirement because everyone will either opt out of the retirement part of SS or contribute to their private retirement account.
7% of 1st, $150K to Social Security or private retirement account
"Not every household would benefit equally, however. (edit) Mid-income category households* would lose because the FairTax would impose a relatively higher tax rate on them." tinyurl 593htl
*those making from $15,000 to $150,000 a year
This is from Americans For Fair Taxation's own research. Clearly, supporters cannot challenge the statement that it would raise the effective tax rates of the middleclasses, because doing so negates the research they base their other arguments on.
If you have a $500,000 medical bill and you were in the lower income bracket you would not pay the bill. Right? So you don't pay tax for something you don't pay.
All goods and services are taxed, if that's the case and you run up a 500,000 medical bill what the tax? Your insurance company sure isn't going to pay it.
