  • that maybe so but you still have no right to be talking about the dead like that let him rest in peace

  • Spoke at my commencement....still get chills. RIP Mr. Hayes. Thanks for the memories and all the things you did for our community and university. A fan for life. I'm at Cal now getting my graduate degree. I hope you don't mind too much.

  • R.I.P. Woody.

  • Woody was way ahead of the curve on civil rights. He was the first Big Ten coach to hire a black assistant, and the first to start a black kid at quarterback.

  • Ohio State 37 scUM 7. Somewhere, Woody is smiling.

  • Those of us who had the good fortune to know Woody, loved him- warts and all.

  • One of my proudest possessions is a personally inscribed copy of "You Win With People"

  • Woody's father was a teacher for many years, despite only having a 6th grade education. For twenty years, he took every summer class and evening class he could, until he finally earned a bachelor's degree at the age of 37. He spend the rest of his life as superintendent of schools at New Philadelphia, Ohio. Woody learned at a very early age that there is nothing more important than getting an education.

  • Woody died in his sleep, in his own bed. The next day, he was scheduled to give a talk to a group of 5th graders. When Archie Griffin heard about that, he filled in for his old friend.

  • Less than a mile south of Woody's grave site is the Woody Hayes practice facility. It is one of the best in the world- and it did not cost the Ohio taxpayers a cent. All private contributions. Woody had a lot of friends.

  • Woody's record speaks for itself: 2 Heisman trophy winners, 3 Heisman trophies, 13 Big Ten titles, 4 Rose Bowl victories and an Orange Bowl. 78 of his players made it to the NFL.

  • Woody enlisted in the US Navy 6 months before Pearl Harbor.4 years later,he was a Lieutenant Commander, and the Commanding Officer of the destroyer escort USS Rinehart.
