Idea Idol is the flagship competition of Oxford Entrepreneurs. Ideas are submitted to OE and six of them are selected for a live competition. By delivering a two-minute "elevator pitch" for their business idea on stage, one representative from each of the six finalist businesses attempts to convince a panel of four judges to choose their business plan as the most likely to succeed. £10,000 in prize money is awarded each year.
Past Idea Idol judges have included Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden and James Caan from the successful BBC's 'Dragons' Den' series as well as the managing directors of Cobra Beer, Skype and Credit Suisse. Last year the event featured in the national media on CNN, The Daily Telegraph, The Times Higher Education Supplement, BBC Radio, ITV and local newspapers. Previous sponsors of the competition include Deutsche Bank, 3i, Skype and NESTA. The current sponsor is Tata.
