  • -200lbs in the direction of that arrow is actually 200lbs straight up (tension). It should either say 200lb with an arrow vertically down. Or 200lb with an arrow vertically up. Or keep the negative, but in that case the force is in the opposite direction of the arrow. If that joint was supposed to have a downward force of 200lb, the negative sign should be left off. This is 200 pounds of tension.
