@pianobob1966 He's good, and I wished I was at least as good as he is, but he is not the greatest ever. No knock on him either, because I like Hornsby's playing. But Anthony Berger could do every bit of what Bruce Hornsby could do and then some. A lot of people don't know who Anthony Berger is, but he was an amazing pianist, he died at age 39 in the year 2006.
It's amazing, good as he was then, how much better he's gotten. There's a version of this song in 2006 where he improvises in "Misty" and a request for the first song he'd ever written, and he's telling the story while he's playing, never missing a beat. Maybe there are technically better players, but his playing is *exciting*.
ah yes, the köln concert is quite amazing, very similar "spider fingers" technique as well as matching notes exactly with vocal bursts. They are in the same league for sure, do you have any Jarrett vids to post?
He is the single greatest piano player that's ever lived - Before, now, and After. He IS the standard of piano playing for all time. Period. The best, the greatest.
Magic hands........

Well, he's obviously not. Not saying he isn't good, but he clearly isn't the best pianist ever.
