On Nov 2, 2007, formation "Rebetik.on" performed at KulturForum, Kiel, Northern Germany. Founded 2006 at Dortmund, the 8 crew aims to serve the Greek community, promote and represent Greek music and culture in Germany and around Europe.
The Kiel gig had 37 songs and lasted 3(!) hours:
The 1st half saw typical Rebetiko mixed with a slide show and narration by organizer Zois Vrettos on the history and artists of Rebetiko. The opener was Dave Dale s version of "Missirlou" - famous as title song from "Pulp Fiction" - followed by the traditional original version.
The 2nd half grew from a concert to a Greek party:
the audience sang and cheered, single and groups of inline-dancers rounded the well overcrowded seating zone - wine, ouzo and crackers were seen.
A "soulful + dynamic" evening among Ol' Europeans with a serious background: The music of Greek refugees escaping the former Otoman empire of 1922.
