Historian Simon Schama examines the English Reformation, predominately the events of the Henrician Reformation. Covers not only the political factors and the role of certain prominent persons, including Thomas Cromwell, but also looks at how the changes had an impact lower down in society and how the physical structure of the local parish church changed.

  • Anne Boleyn had triumphed from the grave over Catherine of Aragon, as her daughter, Elizabeth, would outlast Mary and undo all her pious hopes.

  • @themightymelonator lol ! thats progress ?! for you

  • these videos have helped me so much with my revision..and involves minimal effort in watching them heheeeee so thank you :)

  • The mistake is made in this film with equating catholic with Roman Catholic. This is a great historical fallacy for there are many catholics in history that are not Roman. The early church for the first 4 centuries was a communion of catholic churches, only one of them being Roman. The Eastern church are catholics and they have never been Roman. The Celts were catholics long before they were Roman. And the Reformers, particularly Crammer died believing they were the true catholics.

  • Thanks for uploading this.

Simon Starkey and David Schama make excellent documentaries.

  • Mary was not an evil woman but a woman of her time among countless people who saw the destruction Protestantism brought. It so easily could have gone another way if Mary had been 10 years younger and produced an heir. Catholic England would have not been lost.

  • @marcuscato I suspect early signs of Parkinson's Disease, not twitching for squirming sake. I may be wrong, but it is somewhat likely.

  • And yet the Pope was recently received in England. Life goes on. I am not a Catholic, but I do support the separation of church and state

  • Queen Mary is deemed one of the most evil women in history. Ah, poor Mary, so long as the murders are done in the name of the RCC, you are fine with it. What sort of a good thing is it for a pope to encourage people to assassinate? Isn't he supposed to be like Jesus, BTW, He never murdered anyone. Jesuits made their play in Guy Fawkes attempt to blow up Parliament. Despite being Jewish, you kiss the hem of the pope quite well. RCC is a replacement religion, replacing Jews as God's chosen people.

  • He is a brilliant narrator, as long as you don't have to watch him twitch and squirm.
