Point tracking is kinda dead. Once you try planar tracking (like in Mocha) everything else feels like crap. On simple shots where the single point you're tracking never gets out of frame or gets obscured, you can get away with what Motion offers but once you need corner pinning and there are things obscuring points, you'll enter the world of pain. I've done it and it's not fun. You'll spend hours fixing stuff. Planar tracking all the way! Apple should buy the company making it.

sometime planner tracking isnt the goog choice. NUKE and all proo compositing apps have point trackers. There is still a place for point tracking. Using a planner track to track to corner of a mouth is harder than a point tracker. They both have there uses. Point tracking is not dead at all. And motion has an area track as well as a point track.

using a planner tracker to do what i did here in motion would be TOUGH. Do you see the little white ball jetting around everywhere at the end? No what could oyu use a planner tracker to track that white ball. Planner tracks are limiting as well as point. but with point you can get by tracking anything but with planner you cant. Planner can track great but somethings it cant track at all and you need point tracking. Planner would be useless on tracking that white ball at the end.

This was very helpful. I've never gotten around to try tracking until now that I needed it.

I did an on camera with a talking head and in one segment a bug landed on his forehead and stayed there for 2 minutes. I took a patch of skin in photoshop and feathered the edge and motion tracked it to cover the bug and it looks great!

The particle emission moves with the camera, how do you change its properties in order to emit only vertically? In your example there is no need for the smoke to move around.
