  • @Raybee While I agree that no one should be militant about how they live, I would like to clarify something about the argument of vegan diet causing more death through producing mono-crop. Consider how many of those mono-crops are needed to feed (for years) and fatten the animals used for meat consumption. Significantly higher quantity of corn/wheat/soy are needed to raise animals for food than to just eat the corn/wheat/soy as is.

  • @alphacause That's not entirely true. Eliminating meat has A LOT to do with health improvements, precisely with reducing the risk of heart disease. Animal protein has been directly linked to the build up in the arteries, which leads to heart attacks. When a person goes vegan, they eliminate all bad cholesterol out of their body, which we get via animal protein. I went vegan a while ago and my last test results from my doctor showed the lowest cholesterol levels I've ever had in my life.

  • "relatively routine quadrupal bipass operation" almost sounds comical.

  • thought he was looking pale and gaunt....

  • McDonalds has vegan Big Macs now? Look at the size of that nose!

  • @alphacause Agreed.

  • (continued from previous post) In fact, if they stuck to eliminating processed foods , containing refined flours, sugars, and most grains, and reincorporated meats back into their diet (not cold cuts) and vegetables they would have even better health results than what they would have just being a vegan.

  • What people need to understand is the reason why people tend to see health improvements when switching from an omnivores' diet to one that is vegetarian or vegan, has virtually nothing to do with the fact that they are eschewing meat or animal products. Generally when one makes this transition, they concurrently eliminate processed foods with refined flour and sugar as well, and this is where the real health benefits come from. And then they falsely ascribe it to abstinence from meat (continued)

  • Vegans are against death right? What about the billions of organisms, habitats and species that are killed to produce the mono-crops (corn, wheat and soy). The nutritive value in these foods are far inferior to what we evolved eating. But hey, if you feel good on a vegan diet, more power to you, but don't recommend it as an optimal diet for all humans. Everyone is different but the minority can handle certain grains, not the majority. Also, it's not just what one eats, there are many factors...
