Dr Leisure looks at Pygmy Killer Whales leaping about off the coast of Maui. They are very rarely seen in this location so everyone was concerned about their welfare. The pod appeared to consist of three individuals. Two adults and one juvenile. While watching through the day Thursday the ambiance and the tranquility of the scene was shattered by helicopters apparently seeking an aerial look. One has to wonder if this is stress inducing for the creatures. It was so for those of us on shore. Shortly after this intrusion, the whales moved off and have not returned as far as I know. The date is May 14, 2009. The pygmy's had been in the area since May 1, 2009 by some reports.
