The American Auschwitz, 13,000 Union troops died within a 14 month period in appalling shelterless conditions within the confines of an open Confederate stockade in Georgia, its 16 acres entrapping 32,000 prisoners of war at one point, lacking food, water, warm clothing, sanitation, medical care, and basic humanity. Overseen by a physician and native of Switzerland, Henry Wirz was hung in the shadow of the US Capitol Building in December 1865 for crimes against humanity.

  • @seanreillyireland There were no such deplorable conditions in Union Army camps for the Confederates.
