  • Are you sure of the year? The Oaks had the hit on this in 1970, and I thought this version came after. (I really don't remember the as being a hit for them, but I've been wrong before)

  • @beatapt5

The Inspirations recorded it in 1968 on LP "Jesus Is Coming Soon", Mark V Label, MVS 4137. Their version was the 1969 Dove Awards Song of the Year.

  • This was prior to Mike Holcomb joining the group. The bass is Marlin Schubert.

  • Who is the Bass singer?

  • @tman8077

    Marlin Schubert

  • Who's the guy who came out at the end? I'm not too familiar w/the lineup of th Inspiratins so was just curious.

  • Jack Laws - original baritone

Top Comments

  • His name is Jack Laws and was originally the baritone for the group.

  • Martin has been their piano player from day one. He used to teach school and started singing with some of his students and eventually The Inspirations were born. Archie, the tenor has also always been a member. Ahhh - the good old days!

  • What is the title of this video? Do you know anyone who has one for sale?

  • Love it!! Also love the shoutin' in the audience about the 1:00 min. mark..... Ole Ron was gettin' into it, too! Great video....

  • @beatapt5 The song was written in 1942 by Robert Winsett and was recorded by numerous gospel & sacred artists prior to the Inspirations in 1968 and the ORB in 1969.

  • good ole days

  • The original recording was in 1968 but this video is from the early 70's. The line up for the original recording was Archie Watkins -tenor, Jack Laws -baritone, Troy Burns -bass, and Ron Hutchins -lead. This early 70's line up featured Ron Hutchins -lead, Archie Watkins -tenor, Eddie Deitz -baritone and Marlin Shubert bass.

To clear many of the speculation posted about this video. 1) This was NOT recorded in 1968. I can remember off hand the exact year but I believe it was late 1971 or early 1972 just before Mike Holcomb joined the group as bass singer. 2) the bass singer is Marlin Shubert, one of the most accurate bass singers ever in gospel music. While Marlin did not have a great range his pitch was always spot on. 3) For those that posted the bass is Mike Holcomb, Mike never wore the WHITE suits.

  • This version of the Inspirations is now known as Archie Watkins and Smokey Mountain Reunion, with the exception of Ronnie Hutchins.I hope to one day see them.
