During the winter of 1944-45 on the Western Front, the pilot of a Bf-109G-6 sees some friendly Fw-190s engaged in a deadly low altitude dogfight with RAF Spitfires. Throwing caution to the wind, he dives into the furball to assist.
I recommend watching the video in 720p if you want to have any hope of seeing and following the small shapes of the enemy planes in parts of the video. The streaming quality is otherwise too low.
This video was recorded using Fraps and the game was Il-2 Sturmovik: 1946. The movie was condensed with Windows Live Movie Maker to make the file size small enough for uploading to youtube. The gameplay itself comes from an ntrk recording of a sortie I flew online last year on the Warclouds_WF server, so unfortunately the comms chatter between the Fw-190 pilots and I was not recorded. Looking around the cockpit was made possible by Trackir 5, however the settings were not optimized, and the sensitivity is very high, resulting in very sudden head movements. Alas, there is nothing I can do about that.
The aircraft flown is a Bf-109G-6 early, and the aircraft engaged are all Spitfire Mk IXe. You can't see the big picture of the fight going on, but there are many other friendly and enemy aircraft in the area. Friendly aircraft that were assisted: Fw-190A-6 and A-9. Other friendly aircraft in the area: Fw-190D-9 and a Fw-190A-8. Other enemy aircraft in the area: P-51D-20NA, Tempest V, and more Spitfires. The result was the destruction of most of the allied aircraft with the loss of the A-8. The A-6 and A-9 were also damaged. Everyone else made it back to base safely.
Warclouds_WF has all realism settings turned on except: Speed Bar, Navigation Map Path, and it has short range friendly icons.
I chose not to include music to let you listen to the sounds without hindrance. I think music goes best with things like montages, not uncut dogfights.
Note: Please don't use the comments for political arguments or debates. Just enjoy the video.

@yourleader100 Why would I be interested in an arcade MMO flight game? My cup of tea is flight sims like Il-2 1946, Il-2 Cliffs of Dover, LOMAC, DCS Black Shark, and DCS A-10C. Sorry.

@yourleader100 No need to get mad because I don't agree. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. To simmers, "arcade" means unrealistic simulation. I know HitS - a F2P MMO in the same genre as World of Tanks. Do you think WoT realistically simulates tank warfare? Those aren't sims. The argument isn't worth it. If you don't like Il-2 don't watch Il-2 videos. It's not bad for you to like MMO's, everyone has different tastes, and that's why there are so many different types of games.

No flaps at turning?
mickellemastra 11 months ago
@mickellemastra Sometimes you don't need them. In this case, it was no problem to keep up without having to use flaps. Generally, I like to use combat flaps in very low speed fights, like scissors. Depends on the situation really.
A rule of thumb: don't struggle too hard to keep up with a Spit's turning. If you have to use flaps, it should be on the defensive. If you are attacking, and he's turning too hard, consider a chandelle or something instead. Avoid tight flat turns like the plague.
