SANDF.Drivers training at Swartklip. You will notice we trained mostly with the SAMIL 100 GUN TRACTOR and the 35 mm Anti Aircraft gun. Swartklip was the perfect training area to resemble the coastal deployment positions as well as the Northern part of Namibia, then known as South West Africa where the AA guns was deployed. Sector 10 in Ovamboland had sandy soil and these drivers had to maneuver the truck, gun and generator with all its crew, equipment and ammunition to position. Most of these deployments was done at night. We salute those drivers that relocated the entire B-Troop of the 35 mm battery from Ondangwa to Oshivello and re-deployed all in one night! During this training I often shared reality with the students to prepare them for what we've endured.

  • Hi John, Ek het gedink dat jy hiervan sou hou. Ek het hierdie 3 videos laat maak omdat my eie "skeppings" nie werklik oortuigend was nie. Dis seker maar die ouderdom wat mens na die verlede toe terug neem. Ek het self maar 'n ou knop in die keel gehad toe ek die eind produk gesien het. Mooi loop tot ons mekaar weer sien. Johan

  • wasnt a driver but a gunner in 87-88,man used to shit myself when those guns fired as we were often engulfed in a green flame when the guns got to hot lol

did Rundu and Oshikati(or was it Ondangwa)time blurs the facts

  • I was in the '85 intake, and remember Swartklip all to well. Lost count of how mant times i went to the beacon on top of that bloody sandune... what was it called again? Black September I think, and then having to roll from the top down the fire break.... Full webbing and rifle. Oh how we laughed... After basics, did signals and then went to the border. In all, I spent a year there, Ruacana and then Rundu. Good memories stay with me, whlst the bad have faded over time.

  • Johan, well done on this video. the previous one where comments are disabled really touched me. I did not served in the same unit as you did, but the feelings are the same. Thanks Johan. John
