what you said about kata is true, however you missed the main point of kata which is creating the muscle memory necessary to perform these techniques quickly and accurately.

its not supposed to work in ufc or pride dipshit. real karate is about self defense which involves no rules. by implementing rules you remove the effectiveness of a martial art. it can be adapted as demonstrated by lyoto machida, but just imagine machida in a street fight, that would be a sight.
