Trivia;

The toyshop where Billy gets his first job is called "IRA'S TOYS", Ira is the first name of one of the film's producers

The release of this film was picketed by angry parents who were not happy to see Santa Claus depicted as an axe murderer. As a result, box office sales plummeted and the film was shelved for another year where it saw new light in an uncut video form (that has since gone out of print).

This film was planned to be a limited release but open wider by Christmas, but the protest canned the idea, and was pulled after two weeks of release.

To protest the film, critics Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel read the credits out loud on their television show saying, "shame, shame, shame" after each name.

This film was known as "Slayride" though out its production. Tri-Star decided to change the title to "Silent Night, Deadly Night" at the last minute.

The title "Slay Ride" actually ended up as a subplot in another film, the Disney holiday movie Ernest Saves Christmas (1988). In the Ernest film, the prospective Santa that Ernest was looking for was appearing in a horror film as a killer Santa in a film entitled "Slay Ride".

  • Yup, I picked up the box set with 3,4,5 a while back, apparently it's out of print already.

  • where did u find your copy?

  • I got my copy from Amazon, you can get it used for around $25 on there. In my opinion well worth it. New ones go for around $60, luckily my copy was in great condition so I didnt have to shell that much.

  • I love Slent Night Deadly Night but I woulden say its the best Christmas Horror movie even though I love this film so much I think Black Christmas 1974 might beat it btw I do belive it has a cult following and I heard they were remaking it so that actually sounds pretty awesome :)

  • I still remember vividly seeing the vhs cover at the video store as a child. This is an extremely sick and mean spirited film but non the less memorable for its pure sleaze factor.

  • forgot about this movie...lol....great flick

  • its like here when Kick ass came out ppl got so pissed off it ha da girl saying the c word and killing and pissed about the low rating. which isn't low at all. adequate.. ppl need to just take notice of the rating and not let kids see a movie they are not meant to see. SNDN i think went straight to VHS here most likely.. i am unsure..

  • @BRm2008 I guess it was pulled. I saw it like right away the first week it was out. Then when it came out on video I turned my friends on to it. Same thing with Basket Case. I saw Basket Case in the theater with a girlfriend in 1984. She absolutely hated it and I absolutely loved it. We had no clue what it was about going into it. Two of my favs to this day. I don't see what's the big deal. SNDN was rated R and not intended for small children so what's the big deal? People need to relax.

  • @skeeter2112 movies dont get banned in usa. they get pulled , which i think sucks. how some ppl can dictate to others what movies they can watch including adults..

  • @skeeter2112 was it pulled from theaters? movies dont get banned in usa. banned means not on video and implies governmnet censorship as is the situation here in Australia and other countrys

  • I just watched it, thanks!

  • I heard some bad reviews about this movie, but I REALLY want to see this movie. Have you ever seen Christmas Evil? John Waters acknowledged this as being a great Christmas horror movie and a great Christmas movie, in general. Great review, my friend. P.S. Random question: Have you seen I Spit On Your Grave and if you have, did you like it? Thanks.
