Dr. Hagen Scherb is a mathematician and statistician at the Institute for Biomathematics and Biometrics at the Helmholtz Centre in Munich. showed a decrease in the number of girls being born in the vicinity of nuclear power plants in Germany and Switzerland. For the past 40 years mothers in Germany and Switzerland, living within 35 km radius of the 31 nuclear installations included in the study, have given birth to 15,000 less children than would have been expected on average, the majority of whom would have been girls.
