I got to work with Pine in August before he died and it was an incredible experience. What a sweet and kind soul. He signed my 1937 Gibson amp and told me how he "played one of them a long time ago." I didn't know he had ever been a guitarist. He said he was til his girl friend in Clarksdale shot him in the arm and screwed it up, so he took up piano. What a guy.

I guess now we should call him Pine Box Perkins. No disrespect intended; I saw him 4 or 5 years ago and was struck by his amazing vitality and sense of humor. Class act and still performing in his nineties. Thanks for all the great music.

Truly a great Ambassador of the Blues, a survivor, and an examplar of blues-class.

Heaven done called another blues stringer back home. Saw him play in Austin last year and got his autograph. Not only a great entertainer, but a very dignified, approachable man. Truly one of the greats. Thanks for 97 years of class.
"...now take your place."
