On the 11. of November 1918, an armistice was signed in a wagon near Compiegne, France. It marked the end of the First World War. This was the first global war and many people may recall the names of relatives who were involved in those events. Monuments are engraved with long lists of names, and we realise how young these people were. Let's stop for a minute, on November 11, 2011 to remember them, and those who survived. The last veteran died two years ago, so there is no direct witness. Why is this relevant to us? With all these talks of a Europe in economic crisis and national divisions, we sometimes forget to safeguard some hope for the future. Looking at this amazing footage from 1918 with these now dead people celebrating peace should inspire us this hope.
