1977 Marshall 50 watt head (Serial # S/A 06713J). It is a JMP lead model (2204 Mk2) with a stock master volume. I put an SM57 mic on an early 70's basketweave cab to capture the sound.

  • This is the tone I've been looking for. This is exactly what I need for my band. Sweet mother of tone indeed. And not even too loud, I guess. Is 2 on the mv too loud for in a band?

  • @Dutchieboy20 Definitely not too loud - You'll probably turn it up louder. Make sure to use a 4x12. You may even want to look into getting a 100 watter. I used to turn my 100 up to 3 and my band was pretty conservative with volume.

  • @Plexi335 Oh I definitely won't get a 4x12. I'm only 15 years old, and I can't yet handle that kind of weight and size. I don't mind turning up to 5 with a 50 watter, it'll get me more poweramp goodness. What's a good 2x12 for Marshall amps?

  • @Dutchieboy20 The Marshall 1936 cab is decent. But 4x12s are on wheels so you can roll them around. Just need a hand getting them in and out of the SUV etc. ;-)

  • Do you think this is basically what a 1979 Marshall 2104 combo sounds like too?

  • @odgeUK I believe so - may sound a little different due to the 2x12 open back rather than the 4x12 closed back cab. I believe the amp is the same though.

  • What was the first year for Master volume series? 1975? What is the opinion in the guru's out there of the noticable tonal/voicing characteristics between master volume and non-master volume amps, setting aside the preamp volume control.

  • how can you have all those vintage marshalls ?

I look everyday for a jmp 2204 and cant find it on kijiji or anywhere else...

  • ...and just noticed that you played the intro riff to "Rock n' Roll Damnation"...I guess I was right...haha!! ROCK ON!!! \m/

  • Wow...the first thing that came to mind is that you have that, "If You Want Blood, You've Got It" tone (the live album, not the song)...AWESOME!!

  • Great crunch sound and great playing. Check out some of my Gibson demos with new Mi Iron Duke amp. Cheers.

  • Cool sweet marshall tone.

  • Sweet sound...i'm thinking Powerage album...bang on.

  • @chuckelator I was playing a 15 watt solid state combo for years before I was able to get decent gear. It's tough when you have other vices, bills to pay etc.

  • @Dutchieboy20 I don't know if this is a slam against me or not...But I didn't mean to offend, I have just noticed that around my area anyway, parents buy all their kids gear, and they don't have to work for it. And I'm well aware if I cut back on my booze consumption and my nicotine habit I'd be able to afford stuff like this, well, possibly, I have really expensive rent...Then again, I did just pick up an Ampeg V4, which also kills.
