I see. Chain gang labor goes back to the 1860's in the US. Ball and chain labor used on inmates as well for much longer. Idea is to limit their movement while engaging them in labor. Chaining legs restricts movement while allowing them to work and move more easily. Check out our clip on the history of chain gangs.

I see this completely differently as an Australian. Probably as a seventh generation from the second fleet from the prison colonies 200 years ago. We learned all the stories past down the generations from our grandparents. It's not all what it appears.
