My personal opinion only: I cannot see how any modern pop singer (Bieber or not) could cover this and keep it as gorgeous as this.

However, I'd love to be proven wrong! I guess I should check out some different covers of this song, since I'm probably already proven wrong (according to my own definitions of what "good" are).

I didn't know Justin Bieber covered this song, that's news to me. However, I shouldn't be surprised, since I still have yet to hear a single one of his songs.

Anyway, the point is, is that Ben Gibbard, the singer of this song with this band (Death Cab for Cutie) is the composer and lyricist of this song (I'm pretty sure), and thus this is considered the authoritative version by most people.
