Hey guys. Here is a good and the best way to decrease your boot time for when you're pressed for time besides using an SSD . The utility is called "e4rat" (without quotes). Below are links to the tutorials on how to install and get it working, it may seem like a lot of steps but its really easy.
NOTE: Hard drive must be a regular Magnetic Disc drive in other words HDD not SSD(solid state drive) and hdd must be formatted to EXT4.

This little tool is great, I wanted to make the video with ubuntu 11.10 because with newer versions you see a lot of difference but didn't want to wait until the weekend.

Thanks for this, my system booted a lot faster, from 56s down to 30s. This was using Arch linux with Gnome Shell running. Almost 50% faster.

Great tutorial. Ubuntu Version 12,04 will only take 2 - 4 sec. It's crazy:)

I used e4rat on Kubuntu a while back, was a fantastic little tool. About 10 seconds difference in booting up and logging in, KDE was just flying!
Oh and F**k SOPA/PIPA!
