Congressman Don Manzullo (R-IL) appeared on MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show to discuss his vote against the bloated $825 billion Democrat stimulus bill that will saddle future generations with tremendous debt while doing little to stimulate the economy and create jobs. Manzullo instead supported an alternative bill that puts more money in the pockets of the American people so they can spur the economic recovery.

  • This is the predictable view point of a rich, lawyer who doesn't have to worry about paying his bills. Notice he says "I am not demonizing putting "grass" back to work." This is an interesting slip. He clearly considers working class people, particularly those who are unemployed as weeds beneath his feet. He could not care less about the vast majority of us. He is the representative of the wealthy who would love to have a permanent slave class as are ALL Republicans.

  • Agreed. It was a ridiculous and pointless argument to say that giving out $5000 vouchers to cut back prices on cars, to boost auto manufacturing is going to help the economy!! WTF? NO ONE HAS ANY MONEY, muchless money to buy a freakin' brand new car!! Republicans just don't get it. They are so out of touch with reality, it's no wonder we are in the economic devastation that we are in, because they think money is liquid because for themselves personally...it is.

  • @BlakeSchrunk Okay, so you just stated you love an entrenched long time conservative (Manzullo) and than bring up Klein and attack capitalism. That makes no sense. Are you one of those people who have convinced themselves that all Democrats are "commies"? You do realize that Rep. Manzullo is a conservative politicians who supports the type of lightly regulated capitalist economy Klein attacks don't you? Before you start suggesting people read books maybe you should re-read them.

  • @stonecast Your argument is so basic and so wonderfully closeminded its almost cute. Spending money puts people to work, those people "pounding the floor with hammers" were once unemployed. They are now employed. Making money and not receiving unemployment. Those workers take the money, buy things and create more jobs. Consumers are the real "job creators", the Republicans are trying to feed us a BS line. The rich are not spending now. Government projects create jobs. CEOs do not care about us.

  • What Manzullo does not state is that the city that he represents (Rockford, IL) has had some of the worst employment in the entire nation for a very long long time. It has a major crime problem, 1 in 3 children live below the poverty line (seriously), major drug and alcohol addiction problems and suffers cut after cut to social security. Oh yeah, its school district is terrible. We Rockfordian's need all the help we can get and Manzullo never provides it. He ignores the plight of the most needy.

  • Both of them are retarded and do not understand the danger of fractional reserve systematic economics. Creating more debt doesn't solve the credit problem. Only solving the credit problem solves the credit problem and this is done by solving our government leadership problem. VOTE FOR LIBERTY NOT FOR RED OR BLUE!

  • @levinedr or shes just tired of hearing the same republican bullshit?

  • Rachel has, um, a bit of a problem handling truth and logic. It comes from making up your mind before the taking the time to understand the problem or listen to her guest. Congressman Manzullo ran over her silly ideas and scattered logic.

  • I love it. Manzullo makes Maddow look like an idiot, as do most republicans.

To Rachel, just handing over unearned $ to anyone would be stimulus, that's not how it works.

  • idiot, she has no understanding of how the economy works. Democrats aren't even using that argument.

  • yeah and some republican caused the childhood trauma that makes her look and act like she does

  • you are if you cant understand
