@EneriGiilaan THANK YOU! It's an interesting tradition. In romanian tradition of weddings (i can't tell you really if in the south or north of the country though) there's a song called "Bride say good bye to your family" simbolising the same thing. ;)

@arrriadna cont .. So it plays on the brides insecurity of her eventual standing in her new family. The rest of the song expands on the same theme by warning about the scorn expressed by the help maids etc. Then it tells her: "Cry maiden in your wedding - if you don't cry in your wedding then ... (this all will turn in to reality)".

@arrriadna This is based on a type of a trad. wedding song - the name literally translates to "To-make-to-cry Song". AFAIK the idea in the Karelian weddings was that the bride had to cry at some point - that would ensure happiness for the rest of the marriage - also if she was too happy all the time would mean disrespect for her parents.
The main refrain "Appi on karhu kartanolla, Anoppi tuvassa sutena seisoo" means "Father-in-law is a bear on the yard, Mother-in-law stands inside as a wolf".
