I'm very surprised to find this youtube vid and also surprised to find how little it has been viewed at this time. I find it very interesting. What a jewel. The guy interviewing is Bob Wilkins or Wilkinson or something who I used to watch late night on T.V , a programed called "Creature Feature" where he used to introduce old Si-Fi films and would totally make fun of them ... it was funny as hell. I wish I could watch reruns of his show with him on them again. But probably no way to.

Well thanks so much for uploading this interview. Having been a fan for a lot longer than I would like to think possible it was great to listen to him talk about a range of his experiences. Also thanks for asking intelligent questions and listening to the answers. I don't really need him to be anybody but who he is. Not a problem if he takes his work seriously and loves recognition for what he has done outside of his Star Trek role. After all he is human. :)

@iheartunotreally yes LN disappointed at the fans not embracing another aspect of his talent. In 1973, he came to Buffalo, NY on this lecture. I was in the press conference - he mentioned You + I, no one heard of it. He was disappointed, until I brought out my copy. "YOU HAVE MY BOOK!" he gushed. and beamed. and signed it lovingly. As with most human artists, he has an ego and wants recognition. And after 44 years, I still love him.

@iheartunotreally Leonard Nimoy is one serious actor! We are all aware that he played a lot of "TV Indians" and bad guys, but he was also a committed stage actor who had just done Jean Genet's "Deathwatch" right before Star Trek. Here, he looks the part.
His poetry, which could be a little "touchy-feely" at times, just didn't jibe with this public persona. Today, when I see the more kindly, grandfatherly Nimoy with the sly sense of humor, I can believe that the poetry truly reflects his soul.

@ConstantTweeter Wel when the host said that they were disappointed because it was love poetry written by "Spock" I think Leonard was disappointed himself. The whole point of I Am Not Spock was to show the differences between the two men :P Plus, I didnt think he was TOO serious. He laughs and has a sense of humor. But you're right. He is mysterious. Its probably why we are all so interested in him. :)
We all love Leonard Nimoy, but he did have some quirks that made it a little difficult to be a fan:
He's so serious. This is "Star Trek" we're discussing, not "Oedipus At Colonus"
He was eminently piss-off-able. "Disappointed?!? by my poetry?" Oops!
He was a little mysterious and not as accessible as today. An appearance by him (rare in those days) at a convention was like the Second Coming of Christ. People cried!
But after 44 years, we're still here, a testament to his charisma and integrity.

@ConstantTweeter Love to see long comment of lifelong Nimoy fan.:D In this interview I think he promoted his poetry book and "dissappoint" is not proper word espically came from host.I read only one book and it's beautiful. He may want ppl focus and discuss his works not himself.Oh I agree he's (too) seriouse in 70's.

When he talks about the development of Spock I assume he & Gene started it after the Cage. Much of the character's main traits was part of Mrs. Roddenberry's Number One while Spock was more in the background and undefined. Funny that he mentions the network's idea of having a female character to attract female viewers. Both the network and the female test-audience reacted negatively to Majel's Number One. Such a shame, having said that if she had been kept we would have had a different Spock.

@MissMael Fascinating fact. I think Majel's Number One is the creative character in 60's.She has leadership and commend men. Most fictional and real women obey man. Their space is in house and kitchen. It's logical that woman audiences much like her role. But this character came out too soon and the plot of The Cage don't allow she shows her talent. And Majel is also Gene'wife it may feel strange. BTW she success in Miss Mael, the lovely nurse, role.;D
