When we started this project of putting in our own Heirloom Organic Vegetable garden in we had plans to build a fence around it, and we researched a lot of ideas.

From Deer fencing to Electric fences and it turned out I had the solution right in front of me, I let my dogs take over the garden.

I left them alone and they marked the garden and were all over it all season and destroyed nothing, I did't lose one single plant because of the dogs.

Mind you they did do a bunch of stealing turns out they loved vegetables but it was a very small price to pay for their work in protecting it.

The seeds that were the best were from incredibleseeds . com, the other 2 seed companies were a failure.

This year we are getting all our seeds from incredible seeds, as far as compost is concerned we scored a deal on some left over skids that the bags were deteriorating and couldn't be sold to the public it was 8 yrs old stuff.

Last fall we put 7 yr old manure on it from our neighbour's farm for this spring, just about to order our seeds for this year.

  • Where did you buy your seeds?

How much did you spend on compost?

    Thanks! Watched all the videos.

Actually we had a huge ant problem at the beginning of the season, did some videos on it at the beginning of the season, ended up using Corn Meal about 4 lbs of it and no more ants the rest of the season....

  • Have Fire Ant problems up there ?

My dogs aren't big barkers but this summer they drove me nuts barking, the garden was attracting lots of critters and the dogs made sure everything knew they were in the yard on patrol.

But the barking did drive me nuts, thank god it's over for the season!

  • My cats hide in the garden, and pounce on anything that comes by : ) In the summer, there was a rabbit walking around the garden, and when I walked around, it ran directly into Gilly's wild mother-cat, and was taken down : )
