Kawasakis Ninja 650R, Suzukis GSX650F, and Yamahas FZ6R are three middle-weight sport-oriented bikes that present a somewhat beguiling irony: Compared to pure sportbikes, they are less capable in some respects, yet more capable in others.

While they wont edge out more specialized machines at the racetrack, they could be said to do better job in a broader variety of road riding tasks you know, the kind of riding most people do when they dont need to rip to 160 mph, or drag a knee on a 70-mph kink, or brake deep into corners.

Everyday street riding, remember? Thats what these bikes are about.

  • Again all the hate between different bikes riders...Why not just enjoy what we ride and respect the other riders? I wave even to scooter riders, why not. I have 09 Ninja 650r, love it and wouldn't trade for supersport bike. It's cheap, comfortable, gets 50mi/g and cheap insurance. If not on a track, I'll ride with ANY bike, no matter size of engine. Think guys with liter's bikes just have some complexes, most of them have NEVER seen track anyway..But I don't bitch about them, neither disrespect

  • I own a 09 ninja 650r. These bikes are perfect first bikes. They are fast enough to have fun with but the power delivery is smooth so when you make those early learning mistakes you don't end up on your ass. Sure the supersports are faster, cooler, ect. But there is nothing cool about totalling your first bike and your only body because your ego couldn't handle anything less than the cliche gxr-750 for the first bike.

  • I don't understand why different people hate on different motorcycles of different engine sizes. I think it's good that different people like different bikes of different size. If everybody all liked Yamaha's or Suzuki's or Kawi's, and only liked 250's or 600's or liter bikes, the world of motorcycling would be pretty boring huh? I respect any bike that any person chooses to ride and I think everyone else should as well.

  • Where's the "vs." information?

  • This video doesn't really say anything....

  • I'm happy with my 2010 650, at 125 mph three acceleration slows and you need a long long straight to get faster

  • @opmike343 owned a 650r good bike, but a shocking fairing buzz on th 06 model, great round town, crap out of town due to ducking all time to escape wind, good beginners bike, ride zx6r now far better big step up,whole better ball game.you will never do 150 on a 650r,more like 125

  • i know my 08 ninja 650 can do 150..

  • @kyjelly5524

None of the bikes in this test will do 150mph anywhere but down a steep incline with a strong tailwind. I assume that his comment with purely about the utility of having weather protection from fairing using that speed as a hypothetical. I'll also add that these bikes are not about speed or 1/4 mile times. They are tuned to have power for street use with power coming on in a manageable and practical manner. Most will still be faster than the majority of cars on the road, however.

You can't use the full potential of MOST motorcycle on anywhere but a track. However, I do agree that buying a super sport for 100% street riding is overkill. That's not to say I'm opposed to it, I like most bikes, but buyers should ensure that they are keeping this in perspective when they buy them, and perhaps looks are more comfortable options. They may find that they like something more upright with more streetable power, and they may actually ride the thing regularly.

  • whats the 1/4 mile times? i like the kawi!! i might buy 1 because insurance is cheap and they are nice looking! did he say they 150mph?

  • great real world / do-it-all / jack of all trades bikes for those who want to tour, play with the twisties and commute with comfort... cheap and more than enough for the roads. i really like mine.
