I learned Wing Chun under him for a while. He mentioned that the movements in dummy form is for correcting a wrong movement, so many movements start with a wrong movement. I think his slow motion keeps him from memorize the wrong movements. BTW, he did ask Yip Man to add "gan sao" back to Siu Nim Tou. He said that Yip Man deleted the gan sao because Yip Man is also a short guy. But his another student get really hurt in a sparring by low section punch, then He ask Yip to add "gan sao" back.
@mofotox This just shows that despite your ability to step back and honestly critique the Wing Chum system and many of its fake "Masters" on Youtube you are NOT as clear thinking as you can appear.
WHO SAYS HE IS EVEN DOING THE WOODEN DUMMY FORM?
He seems to be just playing around with the techniques to me. Find the video by 'clivepot' called 'Wong Shun Leung Dummy Form' and see how WSL does it there.
@mofotox Learning the complete system in them days took at least 10 years and thats with 5+ hours of training a day. He didn't learn garn sao as he was a small guy. Why is it not believeable?? If at least 3 of his students, Gary, David and Nino have said this to be true, who are we to say it's BS?!! He never "demanded to change what he hadn't learnt", he asked Ip Man for advice as the jarm sao technique couldn't block a low strike, so garn sao was recommended, there's a difference man!!
@mofotox If you've reached a high enough level, to spot a weakness within any of the the forms you've learnt, discuss it with your sifu. If it makes your wing chun more efficient then I would modify it to suit your own physical attributes and capabilities. Your wing chun is expression and reflection of your own personal training, just cos I study WSL lineage does not make me WSL!! Let go of your ego, and have the open mind to absorb what is most useful and incorporate into your own training! ;-)
@khinsau : Ah, I read about da jam sao legend bull shit but I did not believe it. It does not make sense. If you follow the BS story, that means WSL did not wait until he learn the complete system, went out to ‘prove’ what he did not learn and came back to Ip Man, demanding to change what he had not learn yet! LOL, such egotistical story. U r an ignorant sucka if you believe this crap. Pity.
@mofotox I thought I read on youtube you live in california, LA, anyway if you study WSL lineage, you know he incorporates jarm sao and garn sao in the 3rd section of 1st form, most other lineages have dropped the jarm sao eg ip ching/ip chun, thats what I mean man. In my opinion, for anyone to reach the same level of wing chun as WSL, and have the knowledge to develop the fighting system further, we've gotta take the theory and apply it in real beimo 60+ fights as much as he did!
