I worked for TDC for 2 years. Clement's unit, Amarillo Texas. I walked out because we had a saying there at Clement's.. "The biggest threat to you are the people wearing the same color you are". I just couldn't take it any more. Guards with psychiatric problems.... CONSTANTLY trying to hurt one another any chance they got. Hell, I watched a CO actually sit at the end of a hallway one night and have a conversation with someone that wasn't there. It was a circus!!

@seabornegrad It just depends on the individual, Some of us have families at home. I know the single guys love the 12 hours shift. I also know so many who have day care issues bc of the 12 hour shift. Most of the family people seem to prefer the 8 hour shift with 2 days off a week.. I think the younger COs dont stay with the job very long tho. The ones who would cant bc of the long shift. j/s. Im glad u like it bc it is what it is. Im sure they wont ever change it back so....your safe lol.

@notagainjez what??? 8 hour shift blowwwss!!! I transfered to a 12 hour unit BECAUSE it was 12 hours!!! 12 hour shifts are nothing ESPECIALLY when you you get 4 days off in a row, 4 days on 4 days off... cake.

Look at sgt Davis lol

They have a 8:45 shift and 12 so they need to look at what unit it a 8 or 12

I KNOW SO MANY PEOPLE IN BEEVILLE , TEXAS THAT HAVE SAID THE ONLY REASON THEY WILL NOT WORK THERE IS BECAUSE OF THE LONG 12 HOUR SHIFT.THEY NEED TO CHANGE IT BACK TO AN EIGHT HOUR SHIFT WITH 2 DAYS OFF. I WOULD WORK THERE IF IT WERE AN EIGHT HOUR SHIFT AS WELL. I REALIZE THE EMPLOYEES THEY HAD (AT THAT TIME)VOTED FOR THE 12 HOUR SHIFT.MANY THAT I KNEW GREW TO REGRET THAT DECISION SOON AFTER IT WENT INTO EFFECT.ITS THE BIGGEST DOWN FALL.THEY NEED TO WAKE UP.

I miss most of my co workers from all 3 units I worked. Sgt your training has helped me in the free world.. you are a great leader
we here so much about offender rights that we forget about officers'. I have been speared, punched in the face, kicked, had human feces, urine and seamen thrown on me, spit at, had my family threaten all for 1716.00 a month, after taxes and insurance it was more like 1145.00. Granted that was a few years ago, even now I still deal with the same mess for a take home 1998.00

Thank you to Sgts. Marshall, Blake, Spikes, Vargas, and any I missed, your training has helped me to stay clean, keep alert, and helped me to develop into an officer that handles my job with honor, duty, and respect. Thank you.
