You've all missed the point about Hadjidakis. It's about entertainment! The name was not well known back in the 70's so it didn't matter about being anally correct. At this time Greek music was just making it's way onto mainstream television variety shows. The song was done cleverly, skillfully, joyfully while introducing people back then to the culture of the "New Australians" as they were called living in our community. You have to get it in correct context and perspective - it was the 70's!

Actually i don't care where it came from originally, I just love watching 3 class acts doing what they do so well. I love Danny's ability to appreciate music and culture from anywhere and Harry's gorgeous smile and laugh. I love that they all laugh so easily. I cracked up at the "Mama look a boo boo" refererence!

We have only, a small part here, from the concerts with Belafonte. She used to sing a lot Hatzidaki, doesn't mean this song,is from him too.

@MariaLaGauchita i wouldnt say "took", but the song is "tsifteteli tourkiko" which is = turkish dance. alot of the bands from the early 20th century were mixed, with both turks and greeks. to claim it was turkish or greek is nonsense. it is turko greek. fuck ataturk for his genocide against the greeks. fuck the vardaskans for being the trolls of the world, and fuck tito for his anti capitalist propoganda.

im really sick of arguing the foundation of this song, which is older then a certain countries history. cant ppl shut up and enjoy the song?

I know the Macedonian version, but I like the Greek version as well. It is realy a good song. I would like to hear it in turkish as well. Probably there is a albanian, Bulgarian and Serbian version as well. Conclusion. Who ever sang it first the turks sprad it :)

Kalo,poly kalo!!
Hello everyone. I am a Greek musician and I know that this music is not originally Greek. It was borrowed from the East by Stelios Kazantzidis - a famous Greek singer, no longer alive- who put lyrics to it. The point that shocks me, is that they refer to Hadjidakis! Even Nana Mouskouri, who knows this is not his, or should know because she sang many of his original songs. Still, its a catch tune wherever it comes from. But not Hadjidakis, not even in a wild dream...
