  • I wanted to comment on this as someone who is not a member of their dojo. I've watched this video to help myself remember the order of some of these techniques as well as their form. I admit that I am not an instructor, I find that the demonstration adequately displays method and technique. It is cooperative, but that does not mean it cannot demonstrate a clear understanding of principle. *thumbs up guys* I've found the video helpful, thought you'd like some actually positive feedback. ;)

  • @NobleIreZ thanks for the encouragement!

  • oh my...how rude -- one of my english Tomiki brothers again i presume?

  • Seans kata on aikiwaza.net is nice stuff and demonstrates a very effective approach and Jason and Kyles work here is also nice stuff and demonstrates a very effective approach

  • Well "mrueshiba" you obviously prefer your San kata quick and snappy and that's dandy by me...but to say that this fails to demonstrate principle is off the mark to my eye

  • what i love is that jason reeves and kyle sloan only worked together for about an hour before we did this shoot

  • Consider the following:

    * The tori is not from our school. He's a 3-4 hour drive away.

    * His normal partner was unable to take ukemi in the months leading up to the demo because of an injured back.

    * He and I have never worked together. EVER. We had the opportunity to run through his demonstration material exactly twice before we demonstrated it.

So, just for my own benefit and education as an uke, what should I have done differently? How long have you been training?

  • Facepalm! - Sorry but this is embarrassing aikido.

  • I don't know if I should laugh or cry here... Yes kata is supposed to be cooperative to a point, but as nidan, tori should demonstrate avoidance, good kuzushi and good kamae. All I see here is ukemi practice with an tori who forgot to take his vitamins shot that morning. Please be nice to him, give him some coffee or something!

Look for dai san on aikiwaza.net or search for the Aikido World championship videos... You might find that Aikido can be effective

  • Wonderful demo!!!!
