The Flying Turns were unique in the sense that the trains basically free wheeled through a hollow wooden trough and were not locked to the track like a traditional roller coaster. Not the best quality or editing but you can get a good idea of what these incredible rides were like. Video was taken on opening day in 1929.

  • Forerunner of the Mack Bobsled.

  • that look so fun

  • Wow, I keep watching around the 1:15 mark and it looks like you could get some serious whip action in the rear seats on these things. I live 20 minutes from Knoebels so I frequently check in on their Flying Turns progress. Hopefully they'll get the issues with their trains ironed out by the season's end. I really want to ride one of these things.

  • They are also building one at Knoebel's in Ely, PA. What a great little park. They rescue rides from defunct amusement parks. It's the gem of the Poconos!

  • I remember riding this with my dad when I was 5. . . at the time, it was the greatest ride I had ever been on

  • So glad Knoebels is trying to resurrect this coaster, they look amazing!

  • They still have a ride like this at a Dutch Amusement park. Its near the German border. The name of the park is Efteling. You can find it here on YT and the ride too.I think its called Vogel Rok.This ride or another one is just like the one featured here.

  • I sure do. There was an East Coast Custard shop in Brunswick, Ohio for several years and I always stopped there because the custard reminded me of Euclid Beach. They closed suddenly and now I'm stuck with soft serve. It's not even close.

  • Remember the homemade custard?

  • Cool!
