Smashing Things With Joseph: 11 Wasp Nest

I was doing a bit of house checking and discovered two wasp nests under my eaves. One right over the front door. There was a lot of wasp activity in the afternoons around my garage, so I had to eliminate them.

I can't imagine anyone is going to mourn the loss of these pests... but if you are so inclined to think killing wasps is cruel, I really have no interest in your opinion. Had I gotten an exterminator, they would have done the same thing, except they would have sprayed poison everywhere.

The trick was to do this early enough that they wouldn't have woken up from their nightly slumber had concluded. This was at about the latest safe time to do it (about 8:30 AM).

My wife, Grace, was trying to be an additional camera person... you can sort of see her run away when the nest hit the ground. The funny thing is, though she was holding a camera, she hadn't actually turned it on.

You might have had a lot of spiders around for that nest to get that big?

@calliexw Interesting. I also stumbled upon one while trimming some vines out of an olive tree... now that was an unpleasant discovery. Thankfully it was still early and they hadn't become active yet and I was able to run for cover.

So what's the connection to spiders and wasps? I saw an article about some wasps controlling spiders, but I'm not sure if that happens in California.

Good points... thing is, I prefer not to spray needless poisons around my house. Plus, your way wouldn't have made a good video. By being stomped, they died instantly. No suffering until the poison actually were to have done them in.

Let me guess where you come out on capital punishment for humans.

Funny thing is, it is far more humane to put something out of its misery early, IMO, than to let in languish around in misery until it finally succumbs.
