Driver shoots it out with would-be carjacker at west side gas station

DETROIT —
Detroit police say a man shot a carjacker to death after the would-be thief shot him in the face.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens says a 36-year-old man was fueling up his SUV Tuesday evening on the city's west side when the carjacker approached him and demanded the vehicle at gunpoint.

I have much respect for that brave father! NO BODY is going to steal my car WITH MY FAMILY INSIDE IT! You endanger my family, and your endangering your life, because at the end of the day, that scum is going to loose his few remaining brain cells when my gun obliterates them!

The phone book and a quick Google search also shows my name, address, and phone number. Should I be freaking out right now?

    Thank you!

(first person I've seen defending this (quite reasonable) view here... I'm getting flamed)

    1. The criminal would not likely have shot the family IF he was given the car (what he was asking for) there is no reason for him to perform a worse crime that need be.

    2. The father is allowed to protect his family, and I'm ALLOWED to swear at a child, does that mean I should? Opening a firefight protected neither his car or his family or himself.

    3. And finally, Life isn't fair, things happen that are out of our control, what we do in the face of such unfairness decides if we fly or die

Agreed, but neither is getting into a gunfight.

Maybe, but it sure is a great way to lose a lot of money and potentially your life because you did not have a means of defending yourself. Just because there wasn't any shots fired the first few times doesn't mean there won't be any shots fired later. Pacifism is not always the way to go.

What would have stopped the man from shooting the family anyway, even after getting the car? If he's willing to hold a person at gunpoint to get a car, why shouldn't the father have been allowed to defend his property and family? Why did they have to bend over to appease a criminal? That's not fair, no matter how you look at it.

" Except for the fact that in damn near every car on the road is a registration and insurance cards. "

That is the issue here, the issue is the dudes family was in car.

So anyone that says he should have just complied with the car jacker is an idiot.

The guy was protecting his family, who gives a shit about the insurance cards.
