I've been googling "60fps to 30fps convert" recently, and I'm finding nearly no results on how to do so. Most of the tutorials out there are for "overcranking" 60fps footage to a slow motion 30fps. You and I, however, aren't looking for a slow motion answer. All WE want is some regular speed, progressive 30 fps footage to work with in our timelines.

The following tutorial will show you exactly that, in a rather complicated conversion method I recently started practicing. It's really not that complicated, but if you're working with HD footage, be ready to have lots of harddisk space.

In case I didn't make it clear in the video, the steps go like this:

1) [OPTIONAL] Convert 60fps clip(s) to .AVI format for compatibility with VirtualDub. If you're already working with an .AVI file, you don't need to do this step. I work with .MTS, so I have to.
2) Convert 60fps progressive .AVI footage to "interlaced" 60fps footage.
3.) Deinterlace 60i .AVI footage to 30p .AVI using "Smart De-interlace" plug-in for VirtualDub.

You can find the smart de-interlace plug-in at the following link:
http://neuron2.net/smart/smart.html
Once you've downloaded version 2.8 beta 1 , follow the directions of the "detailed instructions" hyperlink above it...or also listed below:
http://neuron2.net/howto.html

The latest version of VirtualDub can be downloaded for free here:
http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/
Be sure to follow the directions listed on the website concerning how to properly unzip the file.

NOTE: If you know of an easier way to get 60p footage to regular freaking 30p footage, LET US KNOW. I've heard people say Twixtor might be able to do something, though I believe most editors are referring to overcranking. This conversion I posted has NOTHING to do with slowing down footage, only converting regular motion from one FPS format to another, more compatible one.

If you have any questions, leave a comment or PM me here on Youtube. I'm always on so I'll try to answer your question fairly fast.
