First in a series of 5 dealing with Faux Wood Grain in Photoshop. We'll make an Action that lets us create the texture, then make a wood grain texture that's suitable to cover large areas.

  • What program do you use for recording? Quality is amazing.

  • @naturallyacoustic Thanks! I use Screenflow, from Telestream. It's Mac only, and it's not free, but it's not really expensive, and I really like it.

  • The tablet that I use, and that I recommend to everyone, is a Wacom. Mine happens to be an Intuos 4, but any Wacom tablet is great.

Wacom tablets have no batteries; they get their power from the USB connection. So you never get odd reactions from a pen with a low battery, and the pen is much lighter. They are also considerably more accurate than other other tablet I've ever used. In addition, they have different pens that behave differently, and all are fully supported in PS.

  • Thanks, everyone!

This is the second tutorial in the series. I should have repeated that you need to choose two colors for your woodgrain, but I didn't. I'm sorry. I won't make the mistake of assuming that everyone has already done the first one again. :D

But umm.. if you're not clear on something in a tut that's part of a series, you might want to go back and watch the first parts. The answer might be there.

  • When I apply my fiber filter it's white behind it not that rich brown that you display (I'm following you step for step).

  • @speye57 Hi! You need to choose two colors for your wood grain; both foreground and background, as I say in the beginning of the first tutorial dealing with this topic. :D

Fibers always uses the foreground and background to do its thing, just like Clouds does.
