@771Manny i used to see the Bible as the only source for Christian doctrine. i guess i held that view simply because i was raised that way. eventually, i started pondering how the early group of Christians made theologic decisions before the Bible got written. clearly the Bible wasn't the source, though the Jewish scriptures that eventually were labeled as the Xian Old Testament were useful. furthermore, i found Bible verses indicating apostolic succession, and i wound up switching to Catholic.

Where does it say in the bible that it is the ONLY source to base our Christian faith on? Just because it says that all scripture is inspired by God and good for instruction, nowhere does it say that scrpiture is the Only source. The Gospel of St. John says that Jesus did and said many things that aren't written down.Sola Scriptura is a false doctrine. Scripture and oral and written tradition is the truth. The hundreds of Protestant sects teach conflicting doctrines based on scripture alone.

@mefw And why do we get the changed reading '-will be CONSIDERED bound etc ' ? This is blasphemy for no man can influence Heaven. The original reading implies that the faithful will be so bound to Jesus that they will do His will and not their own and therefore invoke His power. It seems to me that the Church is trying more and more to get us to believe in it rather than Jesus.

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some [say that thou art] John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
