While in Rome I had the good fortune to spend time with Jennifer Norstrom, a beautiful and talented dancer and close friend, and we wanted to try our luck with busking together. We started at the Colosseum, where we did quite well, getting a number of videos and photos taken and a number of euros to boot! It was awesome to be in that setting, too. After a delicious Italian dinner, we decided to give it one more shot at The Pantheon, this time just for the fun of it, but after a couple of songs, there were about 40 people gathered. The night ended with smiles and pockets full of coins. Thanks for a magical time, Jen!
The Adventures of ZA is a musical documentary that will follow me as I go on a 3-month busking tour (street performing) of Europe this summer, in search of "The Heart of Dreams".
Share Your Dream Street Traveling Musician
While following my own dream of traveling the world and playing music with people from around the globe, I will be exploring people's aspirations and what the sources and obstacles to our dreams might be. Planned destinations include Athens, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Prague, Rome, Paris, and whatever else arises. Along the way I intend to perform in the streets as much as possible, recording myself and also recording jams that I strike up with others. I will also be filming my experience and interviewing the people I come across in my journey about their own dreams. Upon my return I will release both an album and film of the adventure, and I shall be making regular video and audio blog posts, tweets, and offering free music downloads of the jams as they are recorded.
I've always been a dreamer, but in 2010 at the age of 40, I found myself still not having followed my dreams. Long have I wanted to travel the world and go on tour, and one obstacle after another has seemed to arise along the way, always foiling me at the perfect moment. Finally, I decided that I wasn't going to let anything stop me anymore, and I began plotting. I started by venturing into the streets with my acoustic guitar and amplifier. After good response, it became clear I should have an album that represented the music I was making, and so I went into the studio and recorded "cusp".
After releasing the album, it was time to get it out there. When I discovered CouchSurfing.org, the final piece of the puzzle fell into place, and I declared my intentions for a summer busking (street performing) tour across Europe!
I had already planned to record myself to release an album when I got back, but then the idea for making a movie arose and the theme of Dreams emerged. I'm excited to see what roads this quest will lead to and to share my journey with other dreamers.
