Cold Duck Time by Eddie Harris is a quintessential jazz/funk/fusion composition made famous on the classic "Swiss Movement" album(1969) with Les McCann, Eddie Harris,LeRoy Vinnegar and Donald "the Duck" Dean. Harris wrote the piece for drummer Donald Dean who at the time was in his twenties, and who later was the featured drummer in many L.A. based jazz groups particularly Jim and Martha Hesssion's American Jazz Quintet (AJQ). Cold Duck Time was a popular feature of the AJQ during their 15 year run at Jax Jazz Club and Residuals Lounge in the L.A. Area from the 1980's through 2002. This studio recording is the first time Jim has played it as a piano solo. Raise your glasses to a giant moment in jazz. Thank you, Les McCann, Eddie Harris and Donald Dean!!!!!! Thank you Eubie Blake for opening my eyes to the soul of music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you, glad you enjoyed the cut. I would certainly enjoy playing with you and having a look at your book.

The idea of a piano/electric bassoon duet is intriguing!
